2022 was an undeniably big year for tennis. Nadal broke records with his 21st major title win; Medvedev became the first player outside of ‘The Big Four’ to take the number one spot since Roddick in 2004 – and female powerhouse and history-maker, Serena Williams, retired after 27 years on the circuit.
Fast-forward to September, and the tennis world continued its streak of surprises, with John McEnroe’s ‘Team World’ lifting their first trophy in the Laver Cup’s five-year history – whilst tennis legend, Roger Federer, played his final match at the same event in London.

And while it was a colossal end to a phenomenal tournament (and year) for all involved, it was a fantastic win for us at Sportsrooms, too. Appointed as the Official Accommodation Agency for the Laver Cup – providing accommodation for teams, officials, VIPs, sponsors and fans alike – our team was on hand to ensure smooth sailing for everyone involved.
Going into the three-day tournament’s final day, McEnroe’s Team World trailed 8-4 to Team Europe. By the afternoon it was a different story, with Team World star Frances Tiafoe stepping up to the plate against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Cup’s final match. After a first-set defeat, Tiafoe bounced back to secure the title for McEnroe and the team – saving four nail-biting match points in the process.

And so it was, to a backdrop of champagne celebrations both on court and in changing rooms for Team World, that Sportsrooms celebrated its own victory off-court and around London’s most prestigious hotels, having secured over 4000 room nights across 8 venues for the event’s players, organisers, VIPs and sponsors.
As guests and players settled into their accommodation, the always-on Sportsrooms team continued their operational on-site support across the Laver Cup’s three days, assisting with hotel requirements, travel changes and everything in between to ensure the best possible tournament experience.
In its fifth year, the Laver Cup continues to grow in both popularity and sporting significance. As a professional sports travel organiser, being a trusted partner to source and secure accommodation for one of the tennis world’s largest events is naturally full of complexity. And that’s where we thrive.
From travel changes and specific player needs – to a host of last minute sponsor and VIP requests – it becomes a balancing act; one that requires resilience, problem-solving and operational expertise at every turn. It’s where we make a difference. Not just to the players and supporters, but to the organisers and the operations they’re accountable for.
The feedback from all was extremely well received and Sportsrooms are proud to have played a small part in such a historic year for the Laver Cup. While Roger may not be back, know that we’ll always keep a hotel room available for him next year. Just in case.
