As the new year clicks into gear, at Sportsrooms we have had a little time to reflect on a fantastic 2023.
With numerous new clients and our work on multiple exciting global sports events, 2023 has been a truly amazing year for the business.
In football we expanded our client portfolio and now proudly look after the accommodation and travel needs for three Premier league teams amongst our fantastic domestic team portfolio. Our ongoing work with the Premier League saw numerous youth tournaments, organising the accommodation for its annual coaches conference and the continued success of the Premier League International Cup.
In May members of the Sportsrooms team flew out to Istanbul to work on our sixth UEFA Champions League Final. Working with our partners Fuse and PepsiCo the team delivered the accommodation programme for over two thousand invited guests off the pitch as Manchester City triumphed on it.
In rugby our relationship with our Premiership clubs grew from strength to strength whilst our European adventures took us around the continent from Cardiff to Tbilisi and nearly everywhere in between.
Along with our team travel we provided a host of European Rugby supporters trips throughout the year. One vivid memory from these trips was watching Head of Operations Matt make use of his unusually long arms to single handedly deliver pizzas to a hungry rugby team (photo evidence below)!
Perhaps the highlight of the rugby year though was providing accommodation for the teams, match officials, VIPs and organisers at the European Rugby Finals in Dublin on behalf of our friends at EPCR (European Professional Club Rugby). Georgia , Chris and Jen doing an awesome job delivering for the needs of multiple client groups at this high profile event.
Cricket was another huge success area in 2023 with Somerset county Cricket Club being added to our growing client portfolio. The team then went on to achieve some long awaited success on the field triumphing at the Vitality Blast Finals Day on a memorable July day at Edgbaston or perhaps not that memorable for some of their fans including the teams Sportsrooms account manager Ross after a night of celebrating in Birmingham!
Further domestic cricket success came when another partner, Leicestershire Country Cricket Club ending an even longer wait for a trophy lifting the One Day Cup at Trent Bridge in September.
Later in September the Sportsrooms team jetted off again this time to Vancouver to provide accommodation for participants, coaches, VIPs, sponsors and workforce for the Laver Cup. Working with the organisers for the second straight year the team delivered accommodation for over five hundred high profile guests at this unique tennis event.
As the year moved towards its end more good news was on its way with the announcement that the UK and Ireland had been confirmed as the host nations for Euro 2028, the Men’s European Football Championships. Having worked with the FA from the start of the bidding process this was great reward for the efforts the Sportsrooms team put into the accommodation sections of the bid.
In October, the Sportsrooms team managed to use the football International break to take some well deserved time out to celebrate together at our first ever Autumn Extravaganza which took place around the beautiful sites and sounds of Rutland Water.
During the year Sportsrooms also proudly announced Freekicks Foundation as our Official Charity Partner. The Free Kicks Foundation is a Nationwide charity whose aim is to provide football-related activities for ill, bereaved and disadvantaged children, giving them a day to remember with their favourite football club.
As part of the partnership our Head of Finance, Tracy works with the charity and our clients to enable Sportsrooms to donate match day experiences from some of its biggest football clients to Free Kicks to distribute to families.
In 2023, Sportsrooms also continued its commitment to delivering sustainable sports travel through our innovative Green Team Travel programme. We now have two of our team clients fully certificated in providing carbon neutral team travel with many more set to join over the coming years.
Finally, over the course of the year the Sportsrooms team continued to grow as we welcomed two new account managers Georgia and Ruth (in Georgia case a welcome back) and also added Seema to our finance team.
So there you have it! 2023, what a year and with more exciting events and business already in the pipeline 2024 looks like another big year for the Sportsrooms team!
Happy New Year and here’s to a great 2024!
